This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the democracy and common sense of ordinary Americans

Our annual Thanksgiving dinner is a big deal here. This year there are three generations of McFarlands at the table, ranging in age from 80 years to 80 days.
After the feast and before the pies, we always go around the table to ask everyone what they are most grateful for this year.
WALL STREET JOURNAL REFUSES TO ACCORDING TO LEFT-HAND REQUIREMENTS TO CANCEL THANKSGIVING EDITORIALS: “WE WILL NOT FOLD”
This year, I will venture into political waters – which is usually a topic to be avoided at family gatherings – and declare my thanks for democracy and for the triumph of common American sense.
We entered the COVID lockdown almost two years ago and emerged to find a vastly changed America. Wokeism has taken over our schools, churches, media and businesses. Teachers indoctrinate children with racial hatred and anti-Americanism. Freedom of speech has been banned in college dormitories and teachers’ lounges. Our most renowned media regularly and proudly censor all voices criticizing the socialist agenda of the radical left.
Some of our big cities used to fund police services. Our senior military officials used to focus on defeating America’s foreign adversaries; now they are obsessed with pronouns to use in training manuals. Anyone who criticizes the new “Woke America” is under attack by the social media crowds and the “cancellation culture.”
Just a few years ago, America was the gold standard of liberty and individual liberty. We are now the capital of group thinking.
Almost all of us have had conversations in recent months with friends who looked around and whispered in dread, “What happened to America? The silent majority of Americans realize that we are going in a very wrong direction – we just don’t know what to do about it.
But I have detected a change in the past few weeks. People across the country are finally having enough and starting to fight. The silent majority has found its voice. We are ready to defend the socialist, totalitarian, racist and anti-American program.
The battlefields are not in Washington, they are in local school boards, town halls and state capitals. Warriors are not part of our army or the FBI. They are ordinary citizens who lead ordinary lives, but who are filled with extraordinary courage that inspires others in different communities to stand up for their rights.
Who are these patriots ready to stand up to defend American democracy, individual rights, history and culture?
It was the judge, defense attorneys and jurors in Kenosha, Wisconsin who ensured that Kyle Rittenhouse got a fair trial, despite death threats against the judge, defense attorneys and lawyers.
These are people like businessman-turned-candidate Glenn Youngkin, who won a historic victory in Virginia by focusing on what matters to voters: educating their children and their communities. Or the truck driver who decided to challenge one of New Jersey’s most entrenched politicians and won.
It was government employees like Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz who warned the FBI and Department of Justice had become too politicized. Many see them as the pursuit of a two-tiered justice system – one for political allies and another for political opponents.
Or the Justice Department whistleblower who provided evidence that the attorney general was using the Patriot Act, originally designed to protect Americans from foreign terrorists, against average parents across the country who dare to protest against what their children learn in school.
These examples are starting to pile up as more and more people across the country decide they are fed up with socialism, culture cancellation, anti-racist agendas and anti-Americanism. .
This change in attitude is better reflected in recent polls and assessments. Support for President Joe Biden and the socialist agenda is crumbling. Left-wing media like CNN, MSNBC, New York Times and Washington Post are hemorrhaging audiences.

Americans, as a people, are slow to get excited. We usually focus on our families, friends, neighborhoods, and jobs. We go to our children’s soccer games, not to school board meetings. We drive to work, not to political demonstrations.
But push us far enough, and we’ll respond. This is what is happening all over America today. These are the protests of parents at school district meetings. They are whistleblowers who reveal abuses of government power. It is veterans, businessmen and even truck drivers who are running for office.
It is democracy in action.

This is why I am grateful for democracy. Our founding fathers understood that the nature of government is always to extend its power and privileges. They took steps to guard against the mob rule and a dictatorship of interest groups.
I am grateful that they also had the wisdom to give ordinary, ordinary and ordinary Americans the power to stop them.
This Thanksgiving is God bless America and our fellow Americans.
