Gehm Etches school record on final day of Tennessee relays

KNOXVILLE, TN – Culminated by a new school record set by fourth-grade Penguin Zach Gehm, the Youngstown State Athletics Program concluded the Tennessee Relays from Tennessee on Saturday afternoon at the Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In his first throw at Saturday’s event at the Tennessee Relays, Gehm posted a program record 58.02m (190’4″) in the men’s discus throw. The Harmony, Pa. native elevates his previous school record of 55.54m ‘2″) taking place at the Northeast Ohio Quad during the 2021 outdoor season. Gehm took second place with his record performance.

Capping off her impressive weekend performance, freshman Penguin Molly Radcliffe finished eighth in the women’s discus with a throw of 44.54m (146′ 1″) on her second attempt. Her mark is just four feet off his school record throw of 48.02m (157-6) recorded at the NC State Raleigh Relays on March 19.

Katlyn Griffie, in her first attempt at the height, cleared a 3.65m (11′ 11¾”) bar in the women’s pole vault competition to earn a sixth-place finish in the event. Griffie went on to attempted a 3.80 m (12′ 5½”) bar. “), which matches his personal best, but failed to clear.

Representing YSU in the women’s triple jump, Nia Williams-Matthews leapt 11.66m (38′ 3¼”) on her first attempt of the event to claim a sixth-place finish overall.

The Penguins are back in action next weekend, April 15-16, for the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell. Action from Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa., begins Friday at 1 p.m. with the flights of the men’s long jump.
