Disgust as more fascist graffiti is spotted in Taunton
Several members of the public contacted the Somerset County Gazette to report the vandalism in and around the town centre.
And a resident says he was frustrated, saying Somerset West and Taunton council told him the graffiti had been cleaned up while it was still there,
He said: “I reported the graffiti to the council – flagging it as offensive – on the morning of May 13.
“My submission read: ‘Nazi graffiti along the way – mostly on the shorter side of the ‘L’. SS symbols and German phrases on the walls and lampposts” – pretty clear, I thought.
“Despite this – and their commitment to remove offensive graffiti within 24 hours – everything was still there for me to take pictures on May 24.
“It’s half removed, but half still remains – including a white SS symbol, which I think was the most obvious.
“I opened another business – the third time is the charm.”
Fascist graffiti is classified as a criminal offense and police are urging people to report it if they come across it.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: ‘Officers are working with partner agencies on this matter and are asking that breaches be reported, so they can be investigated.’
Somerset West and Taunton council have been approached for comment.
